Fourth of July
We finally made it up to the mountains for a really nice weekend. The last few times we have gone it has been cold and rainy, but the weather didn't get us this time. We went to the Winter Park base to enjoy a few circus-like acts. We saw a very tall woman and man, face painting, caricatures and a human statue. Elias liked riding the Cabriolet (a small lift) and watching the dirt bikers get on the ski lift to ride down the mountain. Elias was never discouraged that all of his "hellos" to the riders didn't get answered.
On the 4th, Matt got breakfast in bed and a charger and headphones for his phone. That morning we went hiking. Elias walked for a short while and then rode in the backpack (Matt carried him).
Elias did have a good time. Promise. It was probably less than 2 miles round-trip, but it was just about the right length.
We stopped for a snack, found the aqueduct and the cabin. Elias wanted to go in, but no one was home. It was nice to finally really get out in the mountains. Hopefully next weekend Elias will be even more excited to go.
That afternoon we headed to a friends' place for a BBQ and some carrot cake I made to celebrate Matt's birthday. He got a beautiful skiing picture as a gift. Made my earlier gift look pretty scrawny. Then Matt and I watched a great fireworks show from the comfort of our porch. I think the 4th of July in the mountains will have to become a new tradition.
